Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our afflictions, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too (2 Corinthians 1:3-5 ESV).
Good afternoon everyone. I have finally gotten that three class term over with and can get back to sharing God’s word through my blog. I know that you have missed reading them as much as I have missed doing them.
Yesterday was a rough day on duty. I cannot go into details but it was a long and hard shift. So, with that in mind I wanted to talk about comfort. The world today is not the world I knew when I was younger and it is not the world that I knew before getting into Fire/EMS work. We get to witness first hand the worst that society can throw at us. Random violence, abuse, drugs, just to name a few.
Folks, I am not sure if you realize this but we live in a severely broken world. It all started way back toward the beginning with Adam and Eve and has been in a constant downward spiral since then. We see gun violence in cities that have the strictest gun control laws. Drugs are running rampant and killing thousands daily. Adults are selling kids into sex slavery, and kids are taking guns to school with intent to kill as many as possible. Tell me the world isn’t broken.
This verse tells us that as a Christian, we receive comfort from God. There is a reason that God gives us this comfort, so we may comfort other in need. There are a lot of people in need of comfort, sometimes that comfort needs to be in the sharing of the Gospel of Christ. We can comfort but we are just a tool in the hands of God. The true comfort will come when you start your personal relationship with Christ. Then the cycle starts all over again, and again, and again.
Go out into the world and be a fixer. You do not have to be a Christian to give a helping hand to someone, to share a kind word, or to share a warm genuine smile. This world in in need of serious comfort and you can help. Go out and just show some kindness to others.
