In the same way, count yourselves dead to sin but alive to God in Christ Jesus. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body so that you obey its evil desires. (Romans 6:11-12 NIV)

I hope everyone is having a blessed day. I realize it has been a month or so since my last post but as you know life can be hectic and times. I would like to talk about change this week (month). Change is hard and as I very well know, no one wants to do it; Change. Some changes come easy: changing clothes, hair styles or color, change brands of food or soda, and so on. Some changes are hard and to these we can be resistant for many different reasons: Change jobs, Change addresses, change our mindset, and so on. There are two big changes that I am going to talk about here today Forgiveness and Salvation. These two changes must happen together. To be truly saved and a child of God you cannot have hate in your heart for another person regardless of what they have done to you. After all Jesus tells us in Scripture, ““Jesus replied: “ ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”‭‭(Matthew‬ ‭22:37-39‬ ‭NIV‬‬) This does not only apply to only your neighbor, but the world. So, now you can see how forgiveness ties into salvation. For me, forgiveness is probably the hardest thing I have personally had to do.Salvation is the next big change. Ever since Adam and Eve messed things up in the Garden of Eden we have lived in a fallen world. Sin and death entered with a vengeance. We need redemption! Jesus tells us, “II am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 4:6 NIV) salvation is a big change; lifestyle and mindset. We will always be sinners but to make a heart change and follow Christ is much harder than it sounds. Party animal one day and the next, the Lord has you and trust me the change is drastic, but in a good way. It sounds scary because it is. When you chose to follow Christ, you chose to be like Christ; a humble servant. No more thinking about only you but willing to serve others. Once I stopped resisting and accepted what He has called me to do [Chaplain] my life has so much more joy. My prayer will be that you stop being resistant and be more accepting to forgiveness. That you can release all the negative and embrace love. Christ loved us so much that he sacrificed himself so that we could be restored to our original image (we were created in the image of God). We must first die to self in order to live for God. Chaplain Howie
