For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10 ESV)
I know, I have missed a couple weeks, but it has been a pretty rough couple weeks. Being 50 years old and in college is a bit of a challenge. I must admit that there have been many times that I have questioned just what am I doing. I have questioned many things throughout my life. In my childhood I questioned whether God was real, and I must admit that those thoughts continued into my adulthood life. There have been so many other questions in my head that I have never spoken; but God knows what they are.
Yeah, this is going somewhere, just stick with me here. This is a powerful verse. There is so much that can be uncovered in these three small verses. WE have received a gift from God, Grace. So, what is grace? Grace is something given that is not deserved. We do not deserve God’s grace, but he gave it anyway. We are saved through faith. Faith is believing in what cannot be seen. The main point of these verses [to me] can be summed up in one word, Humility.
We cannot save ourselves in the sense that is being talked about here. Chapter 9 tells us that. Not because of our works because we would just boast (brag) about what we have done. “For we are His [God’s] workmanship…” We were created in God’s image (Genesis 1:27). We were created to do good works such as fulfilling the Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20). These good works do not give us salvation, that comes through the Grace of God, and in our Faith in Him we will do good works. Clear as Mud
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. (John 14:6 ESV)
I know it is a little shorter than usual, but God’s message is not always a long one. It can be short and to the point. I just type it and send it.
God Bless,
Chaplain Howie
Dear God we ask that you be with us. Lord, Scripture tells us that we are weak in the flesh and we often take credit for the good things in our life when we should be thanking and praising you for everything good and bad that comes our way. Lord we ask that you send down your Holy Spirit to guide us to the path that leads to you. Lord even though we often do not act like it we seek your face and to be by your side when the time comes that you call your children home. Lord, please be with each person that is reading this and if they have needs that your direct them and if they have decisions that need to be made about their walk with you Lord that you give them the courage to step out on Faith and seek you. Lord use me as the tool that someone may need to find you. For this we pray in the name of your Holy Son, Jesus Christ. AMEN
